AgGaS2 (silver gallium sulphide, or AGS) crystal is useful for the near and mid-infrared applications. It has a high nonlinear coefficient, high damage threshold, and are transparent in the 0.53 – 12 µm wavelength range. AgGaS2 crystals have low optical absorption, wavefront distortion and scattering.
AgGaS2 crystals allow three-wave interactions involving a very wide wavelength range in the near and mid-IR. Potential applications are efficient frequency doubling on CO or CO2 lasers, frequency mixing in the mid-IR region and a wide variety of spectroscopic uses. They have also been used as efficient non-linear optical crystals for OPO/OPA devices pumped by an Nd:YAG, Ti:Sapphire or other lasers in the 1.2-10 µm region.
