Low loss HR mirrors are essential in laser systems in which the lowest possible losses are required.

These mirrors are also referred to as IBS mirrors because of their ion-beam sputtering technology. Low loss HR mirrors provide maximum reflectance in a certain wavelength range and angles of incidence (AOI). Wide-angle (AOI 0-45°) mirrors are also available.

IBS coatings are distinguished from other coating technologies by the possibility of reaching extremely high-quality specifications. IBS thin films feature higher density and durability, making them resistant to environmental conditions such as heat, humidity and pressure. They also allow scatter to be minimized in dielectric layers, something that is usually a limiting factor for high reflectivity. In this way, a reflectivity of higher than 99.9% is achieved.
