EU project – “New Generation Optical Surfaces and Coatings for Lasers (STAR)”
Altechna Coatings UAB and its partners – Hannover Laser Research Centre, Altechna UAB and Lidaris UAB – are currently implementing the ‘New Generation Optical Surfaces and Coatings for Lasers (STAR)’ Project No. J05-LVPA-K-04-0110 funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Altechna Coatings UAB is the largest producer of optical coatings in Lithuania. In over 20 years of applying optical interference coatings to optical elements and providing optical technology services, the company has accumulated valuable experience in this field and has been actively investing in research. The company develops and manufactures optical elements and components for lasers, laser systems, and optical devices. The coating technologies developed by Altechna Coatings UAB enable the production of optical elements in accordance with the global standards.
In order to meet the growing needs of the users of optical coatings, it is essential to enhance the bases of optical coatings and their technologies, which will make it possible to produce optical coatings and components under clearly defined and strictly controlled technology parameters and conditions.
Taking into account the challenges facing the laser and laser system market, and with the valuable experience that company has accumulated in this field, Altechna Coatings UAB is initiating the New Generation Optical Surfaces and Coatings for Lasers (STAR) project. The aim of the project is to develop innovative technologies that will significantly improve the resistance of the optical surfaces to laser radiation and will increase the longevity of the coatings. The development of innovative technologies will enable the manufacturing of highest-quality optical laser components whose characteristics meet or exceed the current highest standards.
This project is partly financed from the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme for EU Structural Funds Investments for 2014-2020, Priority Axis 1 ‘Strengthening research and development and innovation’ No. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-828, and the ‘Intellect. General Science – Business Projects’ instrument. The total value of the project amounts to 3,803,999.34 euros, of which 1,952,320.90 euros are a subsidy from the European Union and 1,851,678.44 euros are the company’s own funds. The project activities started on 1 April 2019 and will be completed on 11 April 2022.
