EU Commissioner Andrius Kubilius Visits Altechna EU to Discuss Europe’s Defense and Space Priorities

Altechna recently welcomed EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius together with the Lithuanian Laser Association to our Vilnius facilities. The visit focused on Europe’s evolving defense priorities and the technologies shaping long-term security across the continent.

It was discussed that Europe is entering a new defense phase defined by execution, not promises. If current commitments are fully realized, member states could invest up to €6.8 trillion over the next decade. Turning these commitments into operational capability will depend on advanced, scalable technologies that are already proven in demanding environments. High-performance optics are a critical part of this equation.

Altechna is among the pioneers supplying precision optics and optomechanical assemblies for high-power laser weapon systems. We support flagship defense programs and work closely with leading aerospace and defense primes across Europe, the United States, and beyond. Our components are integrated into laser systems deployed on advanced defense platforms, including fighter jets and helicopters, where reliability, thermal stability, and optical performance are mission-critical.

Today, defense optics account for more than one-third of Altechna’s revenue. This reflects the growing role of high-power laser systems in modern defense architectures and the importance of optics that perform without compromise.

As Europe moves from strategy to deployment, Altechna remains focused on delivering optics that meet the highest performance requirements, when failure is not an option.
